On running (or is it jogging, with a soft "j"?)

When I lived in the States I got pretty serious about running, mostly because I had to find a way to compensate for all the extra calories that there wass absolutely no way to avoid over there (at least compared to my usual French diet). Then I went home and couldn't really find the motivation to go for a run in the polluted Paris air, especially after a long day of studying or working. I sporadically ran while on holiday and during my summer in Berlin, but didn't really properly get back into it until this year.

We spent most of our summer season in Sardinia, in a marina close to Olbia with no easy access to water where we could swim every day. In the Caribbean we are always very active, with a lot of swimming, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, freediving, etc, so I needed to find a way to compensate for not being able to get in the water on an everyday basis. I had bought a great pair of running shoes while in Newport last year, so I decided to give it a try. The quiet neighborhood we lived in turned out to be perfect for sunset runs, and of course in the fall I immensely enjoyed running on the waterfront in Palma. In fact, leaving Palma was hard because I thought I wouldn't find such great running grounds in the Caribbean.

And then I went for a run in Antigua. After one run through the marinas, I decided to explore a bit more and push as far as Pidgeon Beach. At the end of the beach I found a dirt road going up on the side of the hill, and decided to keep going. And there I found it, the perfect running trail. Here are the pictures I took tonight - this time I took the camera! So now every night while Bill and Camille are wakeboarding, I take the tender to the beach and run the trail. Then we all meet on the beach for a swim and a sundowner - I can think of worse ways to end a busy work day...

The starting point - Pidgeon Beach
Going up, so far, so good!
Entrance to Falmouth Harbor in between the two points
Made it to the top!
Looking down on English Harbor on the other side
I wanted to take this one home... Then got attacked by the mom...
Sunset on the way back
Le Grand Bleu in Falmouth Harbor

Back on the beach just in time!
The reward: mudslide at Bumpkins
Just a normal Friday night in Antigua...
