One of the highlights of my trip was the hike to the Ciudad Perdida - a 4-day hike in the jungle, under the blazing sun in the morning and the rain in the afternoon, crossing rivers and sliding in the mud, to reach the "Lost City", an ancient city located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. It is believed to have been founded about 800 AD, some 650 years earlier than Macchu Picchu. The city consists of a series of 169 terraces carved into the mountainside and is accessed by a climb up some 1,200 stone steps through dense jungle. The hike was intense but very rewarding, with a great group of people - overall a once in a lifetime experience!
